Artist Bio:
A graduate of New York's School of Visual Arts, Neil
Sabatino started out in animation working for
company's such as MTV, Curious Pictures and Cartoon
Network. Neil has worked on everything from a Saturday
Night Live short to a Dockers Jeans commercial but
doing quick storyboard type sketches were not what
this artist aspired to. It was at this time that Neil
broke away from Animation and moved more towards
illustration. His quirky comics have been an online
entity for the past decade and his art magazine "When
I'm on Fire I Burn and Yell Things Like Ouch and Help
I'm On Fire" ran three issues and all pressings sold out quickly.
Neil Sabatino is perhaps best known as lead singer and
guitarist of the New Jersey rock band Fairmont. This
has been an outlet for which Neil's artwork has been
used on everything from T-shirts and Album covers to
posters and flyers. Previous to Fairmont, Neil was in
the Eyeball Records band Pencey Prep with now famous
My Chemical Romance star Frank Iero. For Pencey Prep,
Neil as well was their in house artist who illustrated
the cover of their now famous debut record Heartbreak
in Stereo which has sold thousands of copies world wide.
Using the bands connections Neil has currated his own
art shows in the tristate area at rock clubs and had
help from up and coming art celebrity Matt Lienes. As
well his biggest show to date has been at CB's 313
Gallery in New York City (2003) which featured 20 of
Sabatino's quirky pieces. This was followed up by 5 pieces
featured at Ello Gallery in Portsmouth, NH for thier
first annual Halloween Art Show in October 2007.
For a day job Neil works with psychiatric, emotionally
disturbed and autistic students as a technology
teacher. So on a daily basis he keeps a sketchbook at
hand to write down the interesting behaviors of his
students and later turn them into quirky drawings.
